Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs)
FAQs w/ the quick answers
What are FIGs?
Freshman Interest Groups are communities of 20-25 students who choose to live in one of 5 different areas including Education, Business, Spirit and Traditions, Women in Science and Health (WISH) and Service and Learning. These communities promote opportunities for students to engage with one another, with faculty and staff members in and outside of the classroom. For descriptions of our FIGs more...
Why should I live in one?
This gives you an amazing opportunity to connect with others who are interested in some of the same things you are.
Where would I live?
The FIGs are located in 2 different residence halls.
Clark Hall - Education
Foster Hall – WISH, Spirit and Traditions, Service and Learning and Business
Is there extra work I have to do or a class I have to take because I’m in a FIG?
Extra work will not be required of you just because you live in a particular FIG; however, there will be many opportunities for you to get involved with activities in the hall or you can create your own for the group! You will be in the same Connections Course with your FIG-mates, but you are not required to take a specific academic course as a part of your FIG experience.
How do I appy?
I’m glad you asked. For instructions on how to apply for 2009-2010 FIGs click here. If you have not yet set up your TCU email account you need to do so, but you must have first paid your $400.00 tuition deposit/enrollment fee (it’s called several names, but it’s all the same!), and then you will be able to set up your TCU email-box (an email address that ends in @tcu.edu). Once you have an email account you will be able to access the fig survey.
When will I find out if I got in?
You will find out in July when you receive your housing assignment if you got into the FIG of your choice. You will also receive a letter welcoming you to your new community!
What if the roommate I want isn’t in a FIG?
You may choose to live with someone who does not want to be a part of the FIG, just as long as they are not a part of another FIG. They will also need to be aware and understanding that they are living in a FIG environment.
I’ve heard about LLCs (Living Learning Communities), how is that different from a FIG?
Living Learning Communities are much like FIGs, but are for upperclassmen and women. The LLC options are Honors House, Green House, Health and Wellness, Language and International House and Leadership and Strengths, Click here to find out more about our LLCs.
Who can I contact in case I have a specific question about FIGs?
You may contact either Bridgit Breslow (b.breslow@tcu.edu) or Heather Miller (h.miller2@tcu.edu) for more information.
