Central Office Staff | Hall Directors (HD)| Resident Assistants (RA) | Program Coordinators (PC) | Chapter Resident Assistant (CRA) | Resident Hall Government (RHA) | Hall Councils | Thinking About A Career at TCU?
The residence hall staffs at Texas Christian University are composed of both residents and full-time professionals who assist residents in academic, social, and personal growth. The goal of each staff is to provide an atmosphere in the residence hall that is conducive to development in these areas.
The Hall Director (HD) is a full-time professional staff member of the University who lives in the residence hall. The hall director supervises the residence hall staff, advises hall governments, assists in programming activities, coordinates maintenance efforts, and administers the total operation of the residence hall. In addition, hall directors are available to provide advice and referral on a variety of subjects and are an excellent resource for a resident's needs.
The Resident Assistant (RA), and Head Resident Assistant (HRA), and Assistant Hall Directors (AHD) are undergraduate residents who have been selected on the basis of their ability to communicate, willingness to accept responsibility, enthusiasm to help others, and familiarity with the University. They have responsibilities to both residents and the University and serve as valuable resources. Each RA is assigned to approximately 40 residents.
In the residence hall, the RA, HRA and AHD work to establish and maintain a living environment conducive to a successful educational experience. They are responsible to the University for upholding the rules and regulations of TCU, disseminating necessary information, attending to the personal safety of the residents, and helping maintain and protect University property. RAs, HRAs, and AHDs attend training programs and workshops throughout the year in order to facilitate their own growth and development.
Traditionally Resident Assistants are not assigned a roommate, but the demand for on-campus accommodations for fall semesters may dictate that roommates are assigned to RAs. As vacancies occur, the roommate is reassigned. If another space does not materialize for reassignment, the assignment will stand for the entire semester with the RA roommate being given priority for spring housing.
The Program Coordinator (PC) is a full time professional staff member of the University who lives on campus and serves as an advisor to the fraternity and sorority chapters. PCs are hired for their experience and knowledge in working with national fraternities and sororities and on-campus residential communities. They are responsible for making sure the building is a comfortable place to live, but more importantly they are resources. In addition, each PC is involved with advising organizations on campus directly related to leadership and fraternity and sorority activities. If you feel you need additional assistance or information, please contact the Office of Campus Life whose office is located in Sadler Hall, Room 101.
The Chapter Resident Assistant (CRA) is an undergraduate member of a fraternity or sorority who has been selected to serve his/her chapter. The CRAs are trained student staff members who fulfill a dual role as a staff member and a resource to their fraternity brothers and sorority sisters.
The staff of HDs, PCs, RAs, HRAs, AHDs, and CRAs should be the first people you contact if you have questions, suggestions, or problems concerning the hall or residential facility. If you feel you need additional assistance or information, contact the Office of Residential Services located in the Student Center, Room 223.
Residence Hall Government (RHA) - RHA is an organization of on campus residents that has several important functions. RHA serves as a liaison between on campus students and the Office of Residential Services, provides quality campus wide programming and works to foster leadership in residents. RHA also exists to review and recommend policies and procedures that address the needs and interests of residence hall students. The voting body of RHA consists of individual branches, known as Residence Hall Councils, from each of the eleven residence halls on campus. Additionally, on campus residents are welcome and encouraged to participate in RHA meetings and campus wide events.
Hall Councils - Each of the eleven residence halls are represented by a Residence Hall Council which is composed of elected board members and involved members of the residence hall. These individuals serve their community by providing valuable programming, and discussing pertinent residence hall issues and concerns so that a healthy residential community is developed in their hall.
