HISTORY

Kellye Wright Samuelson Residence Hall

Kellye’s Place

Samuelson Hall, also known as Kellye’s Place, is named for Kellye Ann Wright Samuelson, daughter of TCU Trustee, Robert J. Wright, Class of 1950, and his wife Mary.  Through their generous gift, the Wrights wished to provide an enduring memorial to their daughter, who passed away in 2004 at the age of 44.

Kellye, an accomplished artist and interior designer, was vice president of Medical Space Design and partner in Business Jet Center and Business Jet Services.  Above all, she was a devoted wife and loving mother to her two daughters, Tara Christie and Mary Ashley.

Kellye approached the challenge of life with cancer with great courage and optimism.  She drew strength from her deep faith and the love of her friends and family.  At the same time, Kellye was always caring and concerned about the needs of others.  In this way, she inspired all those whose lives she touched and served as an example of how it is possible to have the strength and faith to persevere in the face of adversity.

It is a fitting tribute that the Wrights chose to name a residence hall for Kellye, whose first thoughts were always for the welfare of others.  Through their gift they have made Kellye’s Place a reality – a secure and welcoming home for TCU students.

Amon G. Carter Hall

Carter Hall was named for the late Amon G. Carter, Sr., founding publisher for the Fort Worth Star Telegram.  For more than three decades, Amon Carter was a tireless and enthusiastic promoter of Texas Christian University.  Since his death in 1955, Mr. Carter’s generosity has continued to benefit TCU through the Amon G. Carter Foundation.  In addition to the residence hall, Amon G. Carter Stadium is named in Mr. Carter’s honor in recognition of his many contributions and longtime commitment to the University.

Teresa and Luther King Hall

King Hall is named for Teresa and Luther King in recognition of their extraordinary philanthropic support and volunteer leadership at TCU.  Mrs. King, a Dallas and Fort Worth community volunteer, has been a longtime supporter of the TCU fine arts and is a member of the Fine Arts International Board of Visitors.  Mr. King is founder and president of Luther King Capital Management.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from TCU in 1962 and a Masters in Business Administration from the Neeley School in 1966.  In 1992, he was recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus.  Mr. King has been a TCU Trustee since 1992 and has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees since 2005.  The building was dedicated in April 2008.

Mr. Wright is a TCU alumnus, Class of 1950, and has served on the TCU Board of Trustees since 1993.  He was also a member of the International Board of Visitors of the Neeley School of Business from 1990 to 1993.  Mr. and Mrs. Wright received the Horizon Award from TCU in 1996, and Mr. Wright was named Valuable Alumnus in 1996.  An active member of the TCU Band in his student days, Mr. Wright was inducted into the TCU Band of Fame in 1995 and received the Honorary Conductor Award in 1998.
