WELCOME
Welcome to Foster, a residence hall rich in traditions of academic excellence. Renovated in 2000, Foster Hall reopened as a co-ed hall by wing. This Fall semester, Foster will house Freshmen co-ed students.
Fall 2008 will introduce our new Freshmen Interest Groups (FIGs) for our Living and Learning Community (LLC) Program at TCU. Each of Foster’s six wings of rooms will be divided into the following FIGs: Women in Science and Health (WISH, the only all-female wing in Foster), Business, Service, and Frog Camp (Frog Camp will be divided among 3 wings in Foster). The group of students in each FIG will also be enrolled into the same section of the newly-required Freshmen Connections Course at TCU, creating a true living and learning environment. http://www.rlh.tcu.edu/FIGs.htm
Room configurations include suites (four students sharing a common bath) and doubles (students sharing community baths). Foster has two large, beautiful lounges for students and visitors to gather and one small, quiet study room on each wing of the building, for a total of six smaller lounges.
HISTORY
Foster Hall is named for R. Houston Foster, a 1904 TCU graduate and president of the board of Trustees in 1940-41. He was a TCU trustee from 1932 until 1941 and a Brite College of the Bible trustee from 1926 until 1941. An attorney by profession, Mr. Foster developed the policy of faculty tenure, which was approved by the Board. The building was built in 1942 and served as a female residence hall for many years.
VIEW... a typical room
So, what does a room in Foster Hall look like? Take a look below. We've taken special care to find a truly "typical" room--we didn't go looking for an exceptionally clean and well organized one. We have also included a floor plan at the bottom of this page that should give you a good idea of how your room at home compares to a room in Foster Hall.

Foster Hall houses approximately 200 freshmen men and women and is located in the center of campus in close proximity to the Student Center.

The floor plans depict typical non-suite rooms (with community baths) and suites (with a connecting bath) in Foster Hall. Please consider the measurements as approximate inasmuch as there are slight variations in the rooms. Rooms are 12 ' x 18' and windows are 6 ' wide and 5' 6 " tall. Walls are plaster and painted off white. Floors are carpeted in blue. The desk and dressers are movable and closets are walk-in. Beds are bunkable or can use the loft kits if the residents wish. Mattresses are 80" long (requiring extra-long twin sheets). Since walls are plaster, tension rods are preferable for window treatments. Windows have standard venetian blinds. All TCU Residence Halls are air conditioned.
