If you find a need for maintenance in your room, please do not attempt to make the repairs yourself. Contact your Resident Assistant, Chapter Resident Assistant, Hall Director, or Program Coordinator concerning all maintenance problems, even those that may seem minor. The Office Assistant or other staff will complete a Service Order Request Form, and the problem should be handled within a short period of time. Should an emergency occur involving water on floor surfaces, do not attempt to vacuum the water with a regular vacuum cleaner. As is the case in all maintenance concerns, contact the hall office or a hall staff member immediately.

The most important place on campus for you is likely to be your room. The way in which you and your roommate mutually decorate your room should reflect your personalities and comfortable living needs. The following information will be helpful in knowing what furnishings you may need, how you might decorate your room, and certain aspects of college living that may not have crossed your mind.
When you arrive on campus you will find that your room is furnished with basic furniture: MicroFridge (except in the Tom Brown/Pete Wright Apartment Community) two beds, dressers, desks, and chairs. Feel free to add personal furniture as space allows that might enhance your room, but remember you may not make any "structural" modifications to your room. All furniture that is in your room when you arrive must be in your room when you check-out. If it is missing at the time you check out, you must assume full liability for it.
No wiring may extend outside your room. Beds, bed frames, mattresses, and mattress pads are furnished for each resident. The mattress pads should be cared for and must be returned at the end of the year. Waterbeds are not permitted in residence halls because of their weight and damage potential.
Each residence hall room provides connection to TCU's computer network, which gives you access to the Internet, electronic mail, and the library system. Questions may be directed to the TCU Help Desk at 817/257-5855. Setup instructions for computers are available at http://www.tr.tcu.edu/.
Only residents of Colby and Sherley are permitted to place carpet in student rooms where carpet does not currently exist. Large, fire retardant carpet pieces must remain two inches away from the walls to allow for easy pick-up and removal and may be affixed to the floor with double-sided adhesive tape ONLY at the entrance to the room.
Failure to remove the carpet at check-out will result in a $250 fee billed to the student account. Exception: if desired, the student checking in to a room for spring semester may assume responsibility for removal of the carpet at the end of the spring semester. This will be noted on the check-in form of the incoming student as well as on the check-out form for the departing student who will be released from responsibility of carpet removal. Any student wishing to place a rug (larger than 10 square feet i.e., 2' X 5') over existing carpet in a student room must receive written approval from Residential Services. Any student placing carpet over existing carpet in a student room without written permission will be asked to remove his/her carpet within 24 hours. Failure to remove the carpet will result in University personnel removing the carpet and disposing of the carpet. The student to whom the carpet belongs will be charged a $250 fine billed to his/her student account and will be subject to disciplinary action.
All student room windows are covered by venetian blinds. Curtains may be added if desired. A spring-type rod is required and no permanent rods may be installed.
Very small nails (3/4 in. brads) may be used for the walls if they are driven straight into the walls and not at a slant. Other approved wall hanger devices are 20 lb. picture hooks, "Wall Grab" anchor. Do not use Scotch tape, masking tape, cement, cork squares, decals, or bumper stickers. These items cannot be removed without damaging the walls. Contact paper, cork board, upholstery fabric or wallpaper may not be used on walls, shelves, or furniture. No structural or electrical alterations (including the installation of ceiling fans) may be made. Remember that any damage to your room as a result of violating these policies will result in a charge and disciplinary action.
Some halls (Brachman, Colby, Foster, Jarvis, Waits, Wiggins and sorority and fraternity halls) have loftable beds. Lofting equipment is available within these halls on a first come, first served basis. Lofted beds must be dismantled before check-out time and lofting equipment returned to designated storage areas except Moncrief Honors Triple Rooms. View information on the lofting policy.
Campus phones are located at the hall desk, outside the main entrance to the residence hall, and in most hall lobbies. The office phone is primarily for business, but the lobby phone is available for personal use with the exception of long-distance calls. The outside phone is for security and local calls. Since the entire community shares these phones, they should be used for brief conversations only. Students should be aware that tampering with telephones is considered an act of vandalism which can result in disciplinary action.
